Electrocardigram : EKG or ECG
An electrocardiogram is a non-invasive, painless test that checks for problems with electrical activities in the heart, providing results in the form of a graph. It is a common test used to detect heart problems and monitor heart’s status in many situations. This test will classify patients with potential heart diseases in the following categories:
- Myocardial infarction
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Acute pericarditis
- Coronary embolism
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Electrolyte Disorders
However, certain types of heart disease require an exercise stress test or require symptoms to present themselves for the doctor to providing accurate diagnosis.
Preparation before the test
The electrocardiogram takes less than 5 minutes. Patients will lay flat on the bed with electrodes placed on the arms, legs and chest. Patients will not feel any pain throughout the test.
